Four identical bricks are placed on top of each other at the edge of a table. Is it possible to slide them horizontally across each other in such a way that the projection of the topmost one is completely outside the table? What is the theoretical limit to the displacement of the topmost brick if the number of bricks is arbitrarily increased?
A child of mass m sits in a swing of negligible mass suspended by a rope of length l. Assume that the dimensions of the child are negligible compared with l.
 His father pulls the child back until the rope makes an angle of one radian with vertical, then pushes with a force F=mg along the arc of the circle releasing at the vertical :
 a) How high up will the swing go?
 b) How long did the father push?
The figures given below show the location of atoms in three crystallographic planes in a FCC lattice. Draw the unit cell for the corresponding structures and identify these planes in your diagram.

           If the function integral(f(t)dt from,0 to x) approaches to5 as |x| approaches to 1 then the value of 2x+ integral(f(t)dt from 0 to x)=a has at least two roots of opposite sign in (-1,1)is answer is a belongs to (0,3) please explain it and the answer given by moderator SIR is let integral(f(t)dt from,0 to x) = F(x)
  let g(x) = 2x + F(x) - a
  lim(x -> -1) g(x) = 3-a
  lim(x -> 1) g(x) = 7-a
  To have 2 roots b/w -1 & 1, either both g(1) & g(-1) should be >0 or both should be <0.
  for >0 we get the condition a<3
  for <0 we get a>7
  Since derivative of F(x) exists at all pts. b/w -1 & 1, F(x) is differentiable in that interval.
  We can clearly see that for g(x)=0 to have 2 roots b/w -1 & 1 of opposite signs,
  g(-1), g(1) >0 , g(0) <0 should hold simultaneously, or ...(1)
  g(-1), g(1) <0 , g(0) >0 should hold simultaneously. ...(2)
  (1) gives 0<3
  (2) gives a>7 & a<0 --- not possible. Hence 0<3

Function is continuous may not be differential. How con you say that it must be differential.
